As you may well know (if you follow me on social media), I attended an event held at the Weston Homes Community Stadium (home to Colchester United FC) last weekend. The event is called Glam and was tipped as the ultimate girls day out with health and beauty stands, demonstrations and a fashion show sponsored by Debenhams.
Being a new event, I was completely unsure what to expect, as well as how many people would attend.
I took my friend along with me and we were greeted at the front desk by a lovely lady who gave us directions and a little talk about what we could expect from the day.
The main room was filled with brands from different aspects of health and beauty.
Many were skincare brands or dentistry practices who were selling their teeth whitening/straightening services.
One of the first stands we stopped at was Eco Sonya.
Their Invisible Tan won ‘Natural Fake Tan Of The Year’ at the International Beauty Awards 2016. Their products are all 100% organic and vegan which is a major selling point.
The lady on the stand also showed us the first biodegradable charcoal infused bamboo toothbrushes! These toothbrushes take 1/1000th of the usual time to breakdown (against plastic toothbrushes) so when its finished with (after about 3 months) you can pop it in the ground and let it naturally degrade. Super news for the environment!
We then came to the Make Believe Tan stand. Ive seen this self tan around for years (in Boots i believe) but always stuck to St.Tropez (which i now really dislike!) And Fake Bake (which i love).
I got chatting to the lovely ladies on the stand and they filled me in on the amazing qualities of this self tan. It’s paraben and lanolin free and has Argan oil combined in the formula.
I came away with the self tan mist in Dark Tan Zone 5, which ‘provides a very dark tanned look with an intense deep bronze appearance’ and the Spa & Polish Exfoliator. I did apply this at the beginning of the week when my fake bake was wearing off and it does provide a lovely colour. I think i would go for 2 applications of it to provide a deep tan. This will definitely be a favourite for me now!
After looking at a few more stands, it was time for the fashion show. We took our seats next to the catwalk and enjoyed a show full of clothing from Debenhams ranges. The models were dancers from Storm Elite Cheerleading
Who at the end put on a dance show for everyone which was an unexpected little surprise.
We attempted to visit the Urban Decay stand where they were offering advice and makeovers but it was SO busy people were actually queuing to see them so we carried on.
We spoke briefly to the ladies on the Aroma Works stand who talked us through a couple of the products.
The products smell very ‘spa’ like and relaxing which is exactly what i look for!
You may have seen their bath bombs across Instagram before (thats how i recognised them!) As they are packaged so beautifully as well as smelling heavenly!
The above photos are from a brand called Naturalogica who included a lot of fruits and vegetables into their products. My friend tried out the hand cream and wasn’t a fan but if you’re looking for all natural products then definitely give them a look.
Overall, i left with knowledge of some really helpful and lovely brands. Some stands were quite pushy with waving flyers in your face and trying to get you to buy things but i think thats standard when you go to events like this. The majority of people i met were lovely and really helpful.
The event itself was well set out and the event co ordinators were extremely helpful. I think for next time I’d love to see more makeup and beauty brands alongside brands who are willing to demonstrate their products on you.
Huge thank you to Glam Colchester for allowing me to come along and hope to see you again next year!
