Turtle Bay Comes To Colchester- Bring On The Rum!

Colchester is a town that has many a restaurant, and I enjoy finding new places to eat with friends and explore on date night with the husband. However I often find myself wanting something a little different- enter Turtle Bay!

Opening on the high street in Colchester town centre is this Caribbean cocktail heaven.

I was invited along to their preview evening this week before they open on the 4th December.

On arrival, we were treated to Reggae Rum Punch, a fruity cocktail with a twist of bitters and lime and oh my it was delicious!

We chatted to the restaurant manager and then had a little tour around the restaurant including a peek at where the magic happens-the kitchen.

Turtle Bay restaurants were founded by Ajith Jaya-Wickrema who also founded the chain restaurant Las Iguanas. He wanted to bring a restaurant to the UK that combined great food, great drinks and great service which he experienced in the Caribbean, and to be honest, I think he has nailed it!

They have every kind of rum imaginable and the Koko Kanu coconut rum we tried was delicious- even if it did knock my socks off!

As I worked my way through a few more cocktails- purely in the name of research- we were seated for some food.

To start with we were served up the seafood platter which comprised of flatbread, chilli squid, crispy panko whitebait, sweetcorn fritters (my faves) and a super green salad.

Next up was one of the dishes Turtle Bay are most known for: curried goat with ‘rice n peas’ and dumplings and some jerk chicken

The food is impeccable, great flavour and taste of the Caribbean. There’s plenty of everyone on the menu, including vegetarian and vegan dishes- the spinach, aubergine and sweet potato curry is next on my list to try.

To finish off the evening (by this point, we were stuffed!) we had a selection of mini desserts including the best chocolate brownie I’ve ever eaten!

So if you’re looking for a restaurant with AMAZING food, drinks and atmosphere, you need to get to Turtle Bay!

P.s. When you go I would highly recommend the Passion Rum Punch, Vanilla and Passionfruit Mojito, Bahama Mama and Marley Mojito cocktails! Give them a try then let me know what you think!

A huge thank you to Turtle Bay for having me, we had a fantastic evening.
