I have been trying to write this post for an absolute age but honestly, my health kind of took a back seat in July which is 100% NOT okay! I struggled to eat well, exercise and generally felt run down and bleugh!
I think it was that end of term feeling, and as I’ve said before, summer term is always a busy and full on one- so now the holidays are here, I get to spend time on myself and do things I just didn’t have the energy for a few weeks ago.
I am making time to do what interests me and what relaxes me, so writing and photography are right up there! I have mainly spent this first week of the holidays relaxing, cleaning the house, binge watching Netflix originals and cuddling the dogs but everyday I felt this pang of sadness that I wasn’t making time for writing- or I just couldn’t bring myself to switch on the computer and try and be creative. The answer, I found, is to get up in the morning and venture out somewhere I can focus. For me, that is now a coffee shop in town which is super relaxing and for some reason, makes me more productive!
I’m also prioritising my physical health so I recently downloaded the ‘my fitness pal’ app and started wearing my Fitbit again in hope that i might stop eating pizza so much- probs not though. So far, it seems to be working well and already from just a week of doing it, I feel more refreshed, more energetic and like I might be a couple of lbs down. Losing weight is something I have been trying to do on and off for the best part of 10 years now which is just ridiculous, so its time to put that first and do something about it! I should probably dust off the treadmill I purchased in January with every intention of using it everyday- lols.
I have been meditating for about 2 months now, using an app I downloaded called ‘Calm’. You can purchase the full version which is a little spendy, but I have using the free section and it works perfectly for me. Sometimes i just pop my earphones in and listen to the rain feature and it instantly calms me and makes me feel super relaxed. I usually meditate just before sleeping as that when my mind tends to run wild and start thinking about all the things! The app also has something called sleep stories where someone reads a short story in a very calming relaxing voice if that’s your kinda thing- I think Stephen Fry actually narrates some of them. This isn’t an ad by the way I just genuinely really like the app and it works wonders for my mind, so it might help you too!
So here is to improving overall health and wellbeing- after all guys- it IS the most important thing we have.
